Interparliamentary Conference “The Role of Parliaments in Shaping the Future of Food and Farming”, along with the representatives of the committees responsible for agriculture and rural development of EU member states national parliaments, also brought together representatives of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia and major sectoral associations.
The legislative framework proposal for a legislative framework of the Common Agricultural Policy for the next programming period was presented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan, followed by a discussion on: the process of adopting national strategic plans, general renewal of rural areas, local community and research in agriculture, food safety and quality.
The second day of the Conference was reserved for the presentation of the outcomes of the discussions and the exchanged views between MPs and representatives of sectoral associations and proposing the topics for further discussions between national parliaments on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy for the next programming period.
