A new IPU publication "Democratic checks, military balances: Parliamentary oversight in an era of rising military expenditure" explains why, at a time of record levels of defence spending, parliamentary oversight is important and how it can be effectively implemented to ensure that spending is transparent, accountable and aligned with national priorities and democratic values.
