Zagreb - Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, Parliament Speaker Josip Leko and Prime Minister Zoran Milanović laid wreaths and lit candles at Zagreb's central Mirogoj Cemetery on Thursday, on the occasion of Statehood Day.
Wreaths were laid at the Wall of Pain monument, the central cross in the cemetery section dedicated to Homeland War veterans, at the grave of the first Croatian President Franjo Tuđman and at the Tomb of World War II Heroes.
Croatia observes Statehood Day on Wednesday in memory of 25 June 1991 when its parliament adopted a declaration of independence and launched the procedure for disassociation from the other republics of the then Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY). (Hina)
