State leaders lay wreaths at Mirogoj cemetery on Armed Forces Day

Zagreb - On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Croatian Armed Forces Day, representatives of the state leadership on Sunday laid wreaths and lit candles at the monument "The Voice of Croatia's Victims - Wall of Pain," at the Tomb of National Heroes, at the Central Cross in the Alley of Killed Homeland War Veterans, at the grave of Croatia's first president Franjo Tudjman and the graves of former defence minister Gojko Šušak, generals Zvonimir Červenko, Martin Špegelj and Imra Agotić at Zagreb's central Mirogoj cemetery.

Croatian Armed Forces Day and Croatian Ground Forces Day are observed on May 28, the day when in 1991 a review of the National Guard Corps, the precursor of the Croatian military, was held in the stadium of the Zagreb football club.

Wreaths were laid today by Deputy Parliament Speaker Željko Reiner, Defence Minister Damir Krstičević, Veterans Minister Tomo Medved, the President's envoy Ante Deur, Croatian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Mirko Šundov, and Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić. (Hina)
