Zagreb - Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković met with representatives of beekeepers' associations on Thursday to discuss the situation in the Croatian beekeeping sector.
About 9,000 people in Croatia engage in beekeeping, and more than a third of them receive government and EU grants.
The national strategic plan for the beekeeping sector has secured €3.7 million annually, a Parliament press release said, adding that Jandroković praised the beekeepers for their dedicated work and expressed his full support.
The beekeepers highlighted the need for clearer labelling of honey at EU level to protect their products on the domestic and foreign markets. Also noted was the contribution of MP Marijana Petir, Chair of the Agriculture Committee, who actively represents their interests in EU institutions.
