Zagreb - Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Friday extended greetings to believers who celebrate Christmas according to the Julian calendar, saying that the world needs peace and that this Christmas "we are strongly reminded of that by the suffering of the friendly Ukrainian people."
Wishing Orthodox believers merry Christmas on behalf of all Croatian MPs and himself, Jandroković said he wished it to "fill your hearts and homes with peace, hope and love."
"Faced with numerous challenges, the world we live in needs peace indeed. This Christmas we are strongly reminded of that by the suffering of the friendly Ukrainian people. Therefore we are called upon to continue to invest efforts in achieving and keeping peace as well as to expand the boundaries of our solidarity," he said.
"May this Christmas strengthen in all Christians in Croatia particularly the will to help those in need. May it also encourage us all, in stronger mutual respect, tolerance and understanding, to stand more ready to work on the general prosperity of our society," Jandroković said.
