Zagreb - Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Tuesday received the visiting Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, and during their meeting he pointed out the role of the Islamic community in Croatia.
Jandroković welcomed the initiative by the Governing Council of the Islamic community in Croatia and the Muslim World League to organise the conference "Human Fraternity - the Foundation of Peace and Security in the World", which had been attended by Secretary General Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa.
He said that the conference was an important contribution to strengthening interreligious dialogue between Christians and Muslims, which he added was very important in today's Europe.
It was noted that interreligious dialogue is based on the acceptance of differences of religious traditions and their spiritual and moral values and on common action to create a better future.
Jandroković pointed out the role of the Islamic community in Croatia as an important factor in Croatian society. He said that 1,180 Muslims had given their lives in the 1991-1995 Homeland War and added that during the war Croatia had taken in refugees from neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Jandroković said that members of the Islamic community were committed to Croatia and considered it their homeland where they can freely express their Muslim European identity.
Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa welcomed the Croatian model of an institutionally arranged relationship with the Islamic community, saying that it could serve as a model to other European countries.
The Secretary General of the Muslim World League also met with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
The Muslim World League is a non-governmental organisation established in Saudi Arabia in 1962 to advance moderate values of Islam that promote peace and tolerance as true messages of Islam.
