Sabor confirms agreement on public security cooperation with Israel

Zagreb - On Friday, the Sabor confirmed the Agreement on cooperation in the field of public security between the Croatian and Israeli governments.

Of the 132 MPs present, 131 voted to confirm the Agreement, and one abstained.

The agreement regulates, among other things, issues of the competent authorities, additional areas and forms of cooperation in the fight against crime and ensuring public safety, cybercrime, witness protection, exchange of information and personal data, processing of requests, and establishment of a joint task force.

The two countries already have a valid bilateral act governing this area - the Agreement on cooperation in the fight against crime, concluded in 2009.

In line with that agreement, that cooperation was very successful, but over the years, the need to expand it and ensure public safety has become apparent, taking into account the emergence of new types of criminal offences, as well as the increase in the number and complexity of existing ones.

Consequently, in 2019, Israel initiated the conclusion of an agreement in the field of public security, which was signed in September 2019 by Croatia's Interior Minister Davor Božinović, and then Israeli Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan.
