Zagreb - Guidelines for the demographic revitalisation of Croatia, developed based on research and cross-sectoral cooperation as part of the project "Network 2050 - Demography, From Challenge to Response", was presented at a round table in the Croatian Parliament on Thursday.
The guidelines were presented by Ivan Majstorić, manager of the project "Network 2050 - Demography, From Challenge to Response", co-funded from the European Social Fund.
He said that in addition to adopting a Demographic Revitalisation Strategy, it was necessary to activate the Demographic Revitalisation Council, appoint a Deputy Prime Minister to coordinate the work of all state authorities relevant for demographic and immigration policy, and establish a parliamentary committee to focus solely on the demographic development of the country.
The guidelines propose delimiting pay during parental leave, introducing a generous universal child allowance, a kindergarten financing model under which the central government, local government and parents would each contribute a third of the costs, and further tax cuts for parents with three and more children.
The round table also highlighted the importance of adopting a housing strategy, given that housing is one of the main issues faced by young people in Croatia. The government was called upon to develop a migration policy, establish a population register and update migration statistics.
