The Gender Equality Committee supported a motion to name reception rooms in the parliament building after deserving women from Croatian history

Zagreb - The parliamentary Gender Equality Committee has unanimously supported a motion to name reception rooms in the parliament building after deserving women from Croatian history, asking the parliament presidency to make the decision on this as soon as possible.

The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) tabled a motion that one of the reception rooms be named after Katarina Zrinska, the Social Democrats proposed that one be named after Savka Dapčević Kučar, while Bridge party MP Marija Selak Raspudić proposed that one reception room be named after Kata Šoljić.

We encourage the presidency to make a decision on this as soon as possible and also that a ceremony be held to mark the occasion of giving new names to the reception rooms in the Croatian parliament, Committee chair Selak Raspudić said earlier this week.

She said that symbols play an important role in creating collective memory and then changing relationships with the aim of improving gender equality in society.
