Croatia hosts Turkish parliament speaker

Zagreb - Croatia and Turkey have intensive political cooperation which needs to be followed by more dynamic economic and trade cooperation and the parliaments of both countries can contribute in this regard, Croatian Parliament Speaker Josip Leko and his guest, the Speaker of the Parliament of Turkey Cemil Cicek said on Tuesday.

"We have intensive political cooperation however, there is significant room for cooperation in trade, particularly in the field of investments", Mr. Leko said, pointing out that further progress in bilateral relations required the cooperation of both parliaments and their committees.

Mr. Cicek said that bilateral relations were intensifying and that excellent political cooperation should support to develop further economic relations. He underscored Croatia's support for Turkey's aspirations to join the European Union based on criteria of individual accession. "Croatia supports Turkey's accession to the EU", Mr. Leko said while his guest added that Croatia and Turkey were friendly and allied countries. Mr. Cicek said that Croatia's entry to the EU on July 1 would be of benefit to both countries. Croatia's parliament speaker informed that he had been invited to visit the Turkish parliament which he accepted.

Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic also received the visiting Turkish delegation for talks on bilateral cooperation notably in the context of encouraging mutual investments. (Hina)
