Zoran Pičuljan appointed as new Information Commissioner

Zagreb - Zoran Pičuljan has been appointed as the new Information Commissioner, after a secret ballot in parliament, with 87 lawmakers voting in his favour and 22 voting in favour of his opponent, Dubravka Bevandić.

Pičuljan is replacing Anamarija Musa whose term expired in October. Musa was the first Information Commissioner and held that position for the past five years. Pičuljan has filled the positions of a state secretary, a diplomat and an advisor to a deputy prime minister.

The Information Commissioner is an independent official protecting the right to information. The Commissioner is appointed for a term of five years and is selected among candidates who are recognised for their ethical and professional reputation and experience in the protection and advancement of human rights, freedom of the media and development of democracy.
