Top state officials lay wreaths to mark Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day

Zagreb - High-level state delegations laid wreaths at Zagreb's Mirogoj Cemetery on Friday, marking Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day, Croatian War Veterans' Day and the 22nd anniversary of Operation Storm.

The Croatian Parliament delegation was led by Speaker Gordan Jandroković, while President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic sent her envoy, Maja Čavlović. The government delegation was headed by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and included Veterans' Affairs Minister Tomo Medved and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević.

Jandroković said Operation Storm had liberated a fifth of Croatia's occupied territory and shattered the dream of a Greater Serbia.

Jandroković said today we commemorate all those who died for Croatia and with special reverence we remember the first Croatian President Franjo Tudjman "without whose vision and understanding of international relations the project of creating the Croatian state would not be as successful."

Wreaths were also laid by a delegation of the City of Zagreb. (Hina)
