Parliament Speaker said that Parliament had fulfilled its constitutional task in the first half of the year

Zagreb - Speaker Josip Leko said on Wednesday that parliament had fulfilled its constitutional task with its work in the first half of the year but that he was not fully satisfied with it, notably with the fact that the bulk of the laws was adopted in fast-track procedure.

-The basic request is that, for quality and to monitor performance, as many laws as possible pass the regular procedure, namely two readings, so that the interested public can follow from the start the adoption of acts and influence the final version, Leko told reporters after parliament's sitting before the summer recess.

He said parliament held two sessions this year lasting 68 days, discussing 248 items, passing 130 laws, including 103 in fast-track procedure. Fifty-three laws were passed unanimously, while three bills were rejected. Parliament also adopted 107 decisions, two plans, one conclusion and 55 reports, and made one authoritative interpretation of a law. Parliamentary bodies held 187 sessions, including 30 theme ones.
