Zagreb - Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković met on Wednesday with Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, who was on an official visit to Croatia.
Jandroković underlined that Croatia, as a reliable partner, consistently advocates Kosovo's accession to international and regional organisations. Kosovo can count on Croatia's continued political and technical support, especially on its Euro-Atlantic journey, he said.
Jandroković and Gërvalla-Schwarz expressed satisfaction with the increase in trade. They see the potential for new breakthroughs in economic cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, the defence industry and the IT sector.
Jandroković recalled that Croats in Kosovo have lived and nurtured their identity for more than seven centuries, and this year marks the 720th anniversary of the first mention of Janjevo.
He called for stronger engagement of Kosovo institutions in protecting the small Croatian minority in Kosovo and improving their political, legal and social status. As a possible model for this, he cited the position of the Albanian minority in Croatia, whose projects are regularly financed from the state budget, and ethnic Albanians are listed as a minority in the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia and have their representative in the Sabor.
Regarding the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia on the normalisation of relations, Jandroković expressed the hope that the acceptance of the EU proposal will ultimately lead to the creation of conditions for the permanent stabilisation of relations between the two countries, which would contribute to the long-term stability of the entire region and its European prospects.
