Zagreb - The Croatian Parliament on Friday supported by a majority vote changes to a law that had reduced pensions earned under special regulations on pension insurance, abolishing a 10% cut in those pensions, a measure that refers to around 96,000 pensioners.
The amendments were supported by 125 MPs, one abstained and there were no votes against.
The amendments abolish the 10% reduction in pensions earned under special regulations (so-called preferential pensions), introduced during the crisis in 2010. As of 1 July, around 96,000 pensioners will receive higher pensions and the increase will double as of 1 January 2024.
The parliament also adopted amendments to the law on the transfer and processing of air passenger data as well as amendments to the Waters Act, which facilitate access to drinking water for all citizens, notably vulnerable and marginalised groups.
The parliament accepted a decision to relieve the president, vice president and members of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) due to the expiry of their terms, and reappointed Tonko Obuljen HAKOM president for another five-year term.
MPs decided that a bill on amicable dispute settlement would receive a second reading and adopted reports on the use of European Structural and Investment Funds in 2021 and the first half of 2022, as well as defence reports for 2020 and 2021.
