Zagreb - Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Thursday issued a message marking International Workers’ Day, saying society was fair and secure when work was respected and effort properly rewarded, enabling people to live with dignity.
On behalf of the Croatian Parliament and personally, he extended best wishes to all citizens of Croatia on 1 May – International Workers’ Day. Work is a key pillar of economic and social development, he said, adding that fair societies ensured people could live decently from their labour.
Against a backdrop of rapid technological change and global challenges, he stressed the need to adapt labour market policies responsibly, strengthen social dialogue, and build cooperation between the state, employers and trade unions, while preserving respect for work and responsibility.
He also highlighted the importance of balancing work and private life and reinforcing the role of the family as the foundation of society.
Jandroković noted that 1 May also marks the feast of St Joseph the Worker, describing him as a symbol of humility, perseverance and dedication, and thanked all workers for their contribution.
