Jandroković and Krišto discuss bilateral relations, status of Croats

Zagreb - Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković met with the Chair of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, during her visit to Zagreb on Thursday.

They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, including care for the equality of the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting reaffirmed friendly and good-neighbourly bilateral relations and noted that the two countries share a common border of over 1,000 km and common history as well as the fact that the Croats are one of the three constituent peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Jandroković recalled that care for the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina is Croatia's constitutional obligation. Preserving their equality and ensuring the legitimate representation of all three constituent peoples is a key to the functioning of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"Completion of the reform of electoral legislation would be an important contribution to political stability and a step towards strengthening trust within Bosnia and Herzegovina. On these grounds it would be much easier to build the European future of Bosnia and Herzegovina," Jandroković said.

The meeting also focused on economic cooperation, which was described as excellent.

According to the press release, 30 per cent of all Croatian foreign investments are made in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and trade between the two countries increased by over 50 per cent in the first ten months of 2022.

Jandroković congratulated Bosnia and Herzegovina on acquiring the status of a candidate for EU membership, adding that Croatia would continue providing political, diplomatic and technical support on that path.

Krišto thanked Croatia for the assistance provided, including in European integration and in many cultural, educational and infrastructure projects. She spoke of the priorities of the Council of Ministers and the current political situation in her country, including the process of government formation in the Bosniak-Croat Federation entity.
