Croatian Parliament Speaker meets Luxembourg PM

Zagreb - Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Tuesday received Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden, who is on an official visit to Croatia.

Both officials agreed that relations between Croatia and Luxembourg are very good and friendly, with mutual interest in deepening dialogue at political and expert levels. They highlighted the importance of more frequent meetings between parliamentarians, including committees responsible for European and foreign affairs. Jandroković invited Claude Wiseler, President of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies, to visit Croatia.

It was noted that Luxembourgish companies are the third-largest foreign investors in Croatia, with more than €6.3 billion invested since 1993, primarily in the financial sector and, more recently, in bioenergy.

Jandroković and Frieden underlined the importance of multilateralism, respect for international law, and the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. Both countries, as NATO partners, share the view that member states need to continue strengthening their defence capabilities.

They expressed firm support for Ukraine. Jandroković also highlighted Croatia's expertise gained during the Homeland War.

They agreed that EU enlargement should be based on individual merit and fulfilment of all membership criteria. Jandroković noted waning motivation in some candidate countries, which requires coordinated reflection at the European level. He warned of the persistent risk of negative influence from states that do not share European values and oppose enlargement, aided in promoting such positions by some politicians in Croatia's neighbours.
