Zagreb - In his New Year message on Tuesday, Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković wished everyone abundant health and fulfillment, emphasising that Croatia needs more unity and mutual respect on its path to strengthening its security and economic position.
Reflecting on the past year, he noted that it was a period of numerous challenges and unrest for many around the world. He pointed out that armed conflicts in the broader neighbourhood, various security incidents, and the devastating effects of natural disasters significantly undermined the sense of security.
"Nevertheless, 2024 brought a lot of good for our Homeland. With faith in our abilities and through responsible public policies, we achieved milestones that strongly impact the quality of life in Croatia. The employment rate, wages, and GDP continue to grow, and we have reached a historically highest credit rating, which will bring new benefits to our citizens and the economy," he said.
The coming year will undoubtedly bring new opportunities for Croatia to progress, with strides that will make the economy more innovative and competitive, Jandroković said. These steps will bring necessary long-term improvements in demography, education, and childcare, make housing more affordable, provide quality healthcare, and contribute to a more dignified life for the elderly, he added.
In a time of growing global uncertainty, it is essential to continue investing in the combat readiness of the Croatian Army and to strengthen all institutions as well as public trust in them, he said. At the same time, Croatia must remain committed to the unity of the homeland and the diaspora, always taking special care of Croats in neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina, he added.
"With hope that the coming period will truly bring us more optimism, as well as abundant health and fulfillment in private, family, and professional life, I once again wish everyone a happy New Year!" Jandroković said in his message.
