Zagreb - Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Friday sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of International Women's Day, and emphasises that it is important to make it possible for women to have a work-life balance.
On the occasion of International Women's Day, observed on 8 March, we remember multiple achievements made by women in all the spheres of human activities in history. We also remember the long and painstaking journey women have had to undertake to attain their political, economic and social rights, Jandroković writes.
"Therefore on 8 March, we pay tribute to all women who have never given up in their fight for their just cause and women who dared to remove social barriers."
Women continue facing many challenges on a daily basis, and sometimes they face obstacles only because they are women, he added.
Jandroković called for the strong and unreserved fight against any form of abuse and violence against women.
Additional steps should be taken to make it possible for women to enjoy full equality with men, he underscored.
"Being committed to building Croatia as a society of tolerance and equality, we are also obliged to make additional steps to ensure full and real gender equality in the business, political, social and family environment."
In this context, it is particularly important to continue making efforts necessary to ensure the work-life balance, he added.
Jandroković called on the general public to appreciate the contribution made to the present-day world by "our mothers, grandmothers, wives, and daughters, friends and partners on a daily basis."
