Zagreb - The renovated Franjo Tuđman square in Rugvica, just east of Zagreb, was unveiled on Friday alongside a monument dedicated to Croatia's first president.
The square and the monument were inaugurated by Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković, Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Gabrijela Žalac as Prime Minister Andrej Plenković's envoy, and municipal head Mato Čičak.
Jandroković said he was pleased Rugvica had joined the other towns and municipalities in Croatia which already had Tuđman monuments, adding that its residents were honouring Tuđman's work and political legacy, which he said were essential for Croats and Croatia.
"All these monuments are confirmations of the respect and expressions of the gratitude of the Croatian people to the man. These monuments are also symbols of Croatia's freedom to which Tuđman took us," Jandrokovic said.
Minister Žalac said Rugvica was one of the most developed municipalities in Croatia thanks to its location and proximity to Zagreb. She added that she and Economy Minister Darko Horvat signed a decision today under which Rugvica would get a HRK 15.6 million business zone.
