Zagreb - Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Monday issued an International Workers' Day message, saying the centuries-long struggle of workers should be a reminder of all that has been achieved in strengthening their rights as well as an incentive to create better work conditions, social security, justice and solidarity.
"On International Workers' Day, we remember the historic events of 1 May 1886 when 40,000 workers protested in Chicago, demanding recognition of their fundamental rights and dignity," he said.
That struggle should "be an additional incentive to continue to create conditions in Croatian society in which every individual will have equal opportunities for work, a dignified life from their work as well as for social security, social justice and solidarity, to the benefit of the further development of Croatia," Jandroković said, wishing all Croatian citizens a happy International Workers' Day.
