Zagreb - The Croatian Parliament on Friday, after nearly three years, appointed a Council for Civilian Oversight of Security and Intelligence Agencies, which ceased to exist in late 2015 when the term of its then members of the council expired.
Former vice president of the State Election Commission Zdravka Čufar Šarić was elected council chair, while IT expert Gordan Akrap, Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) inspector Eduard Briški, ITC expert Josip Čerina, parliament clerk Mile Štefanac, Gordan Bosanac of the Centre for Peace Studies NGO, and former Croatian consul in Mostar Vojko Rešetar were elected members of the council.
Parliament appointed the council by a majority vote -- 101 MPs were in favour of the appointment, 17 were against and four abstained.
