Zagreb - The Croatian Parliament passed the Agriculture Bill on Friday, setting out agricultural policy goals and measures and a framework for their implementation.
The measures concern rural development, direct aid, the agricultural market and other policy areas. They will be financed from EU funds, the central and local government budgets, donations and other sources.
The bill lays the groundwork for the adoption of a plan to prevent and reduce food waste. It provides for Croatia's participation in the adoption of international food standards, known as the Codex Alimentarius, with the aim of protecting consumer health and ensuring fair practices in the food trade.
Parliament also adopted the Livestock Farming Bill, encouraging the association of livestock farmers, and amended the Renewable Energy Sources and High-Efficiency Cogeneration Act, paving the way for further investment in renewable energy sources.
