Lawmakers tell citizens: Listen to authorities and be responsible

Zagreb - Lawmakers on Friday commended the national civil protection authority, thanked the people on the front lines in the fight against coronavirus and called on citizens to adhere to the instructions issued by relevant services and to act responsibly.

I join in with the commendations and hope that there will be as few new cases as possible on the weekend and in future, Deputy Parliament Speaker Ante Sanader (HDZ) said, concluding this week's session of Parliament.

MP Tomislav Panenić called on citizens to adhere to instructions and to be responsible, particularly when requesting passes to leave their place of residence.

- Cashiers in supermarkets are more threatened than sellers at farmers' markets, MP Miro Bulj (Bridge) said and once again called for farmers' markets to be reopened immediately. If supermarket chains can sell agricultural products from infected areas like Italy, then our domestic products can be sold too, he added. He called on the Government to hand out uncultivated land owned by the state to those who wish to work the land.

MP Veljko Kajtazi (Roma representative) called for special care for excluded groups, the Roma, the socially vulnerable and the elderly. The measures that are being adopted affect them more than those better-off classes of society, he said.

MP Gordan Maras (SDP) said that the Social Democratic Party is not satisfied with the speed of the Government's proposal for the economy, that more and more people are lining up for the dole and that entrepreneurs do not know what their prospects are. He added that the SDP had sent a package of bills to Parliament aimed at relieving the consequences of the crisis caused by COVID-19.
