Zagreb - Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković said on Monday, while formally opening a simulation of parliament's plenary session organised by the ELSA association of law students, that it was necessary to develop discussions in a democratic atmosphere and that arguments should be substantiated while avoiding pinning labels on people with different views.
"Croatia is a fledgling democracy. We are still acquiring skills of how to debate and make substantiated debates," Jandroković said while commenting on the ongoing public discussion on the planned ratification of the Council of Europe convention on combating violence against women and domestic violence. He said that debates void of substantiated arguments could hardly result in the best solutions suitable for as many people as possible.
Some 130 students, who are members of ELSA , gathered in Zagreb to discuss legislation on employment of students during this moot parliamentary session.
The Croatian branch of ELSA has been conducting the project of simulation of parliamentary sessions for 18 years. Some 130 students arrived for this year's event from the law schools in Zagreb, Osijek, Rijeka and Split and the Public administration school in Vukovar.
