Zagreb - Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković and Spanish King Felipe VI on Thursday described the bilateral relations as excellent and friendly, and agreed that they can be boosted in the IT, pharmaceutical and defence industries.
Jandroković and the Spanish monarch, who was on a two-day state visit, agreed that the bilateral economic relations are growing with a rise in the exchange of trade between the two countries and more and more Spaniards visiting Croatia.
They also hailed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Croatian and Spanish science ministries on cooperation in the DONES project, a Croatian-Spanish initiative which envisages the two countries' partnership in fusion research and the development and construction of the DONES accelerator.
The two interlocutors are convinced that this project would also contribute to the establishment of more and more partnerships between Croatian and Spanish companies in the production of equipment for other research projects.
Jandroković and King Felipe VI emphasised the importance of the continuation of the close cooperation inside the European Union and NATO, and the Spanish monarch said that during its chairmanship of the EU in the second half of 2023, Spain would work on the intensification of dialogue between the EU members.
Jandroković thanked Madrid for its support to Croatia's efforts to join the euro area, the Schengen Area and the OECD as well as it aspirations to be admitted to the MED9.
