Croatian Parliament hosts CEI Parliamentary Dimension

Zagreb – Parliamentary delegations of the Central European Initiative member states will gather on Monday, May 14th, 2018 in the Croatian Parliament at the CEI PD Parliamentary Committee meeting.

During the Croatian Presidency of the Central European Initiative, the Croatian Parliament hosts and chairs the Parliamentary Dimension of this association. The topic of the Parliamentary Committee meeting will be sustainable tourism and the role of parliaments in achieving this priority that is high on the agenda of all CEI member states. Parliamentary cooperation is one of the priorities of the Croatian CEI Presidency, the others being transfer of know-how gained during the EU membership pre-accession process, economic cooperation, cooperation in the field of culture and stronger cooperation of the CEI with other regional and international organisations.

The Parliamentary Committee meeting will be hosted by the current President of the CEI Parliamentary Dimension Mr. Peđa Grbin. The meeting will gather the parliamentary delegations from CEI member states and will also be attended by the Deputy Speaker of Croatian Parliament Mr. Željko Reiner in the capacity of the Croatian Parliament Speaker’s envoy, the chairman of the Croatian Parliament’s Tourism Committee Mr. Branko Grčić, the State Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Croatia Mr. Frano Matušić, and the Head of the European Parliament’s Information Office in Zagreb Ms Violeta Simeonova Staničić. The CEI Deputy Secretary General Mr. Antal Nikoletti will address the participants on behalf of the Central European Initiative.

To conclude its one-day session, the Parliamentary Committee is expected to adopt the Joint Statement of the representatives of CEI PD member states on the role of parliaments in achieving the goals of sustainable tourism. As part of the Croatian Presidency, the Croatian Parliament will also host the CEI PD Parliamentary Assembly at the end of the year, when a declaration on the same topic is expected to be adopted.
