Government sends three judicial bills for second reading in Parliament

Zagreb - The government on Thursday sent three judicial bills for the second reading in Parliament, proposing harsher penalties for acts of violence against women, domestic violence and violence against other people.

The bills in question would amend the Criminal Code, the Domestic Violence Act, and the Criminal Procedure Act.

Under the proposed amendments, an assault on a social worker or a teacher is treated as an attack on an officeholder, the crime of sexual intercourse without consent is incorporated into the crime of rape, and sentences for crimes of rape range from one to 10 years, depending on their gravity. The crime of aggravated defamation is deleted from legislation.
