Sabor set to ratify convention on European University Institute

Zagreb - The Croatian parliament on Tuesday unanimously endorsed the convention on the European University Institute (EUI), and the ratification of the document will make it possible for Croatian researchers to have access to prestigious research programmes and projects.

"By ratifying this Convention, Croatia not only reaffirms its commitment to academic excellence but also strategically reinforces its position within the European research area," said Nikola Mrvac, State Secretary at the Ministry of Science, as he presented the final draft law for the ratification of the Convention on the Establishment of the European University Institute.

Additionally, the ratification would grant Croatia full membership of the European University Institute, which is based in Florence. Established in 1972 by six founding members of the European Community, the institute now has 23 members; Mrvac said

The EUI is renowned for its postgraduate and doctoral education and conducts advanced research in areas including economics, law, history, civilisation, and political and social sciences, with a particular focus on European issues, Mrvac explained.

"The institute provides exceptional academic development opportunities for young researchers, offering them a unique educational experience in an international and collaborative environment," he concluded.
