Zagreb - The parliamentary Elections, Appointments and Administration Committee has unanimously determined a list of 13 candidates who meet the requirements to be members of the Conflict of Interest Commission.
Following a public call for the positions, 15 applications were submitted for the position of the commission's chair and four members of that body, who are elected for a term of five years. Two applicants did not meet the criteria and subsequently withdrew from the procedure.
Four candidates applied for the position of commission's chair, including incumbent chairwoman Nataša Novaković. The other candidates for the position are Aleksandra Jozić-Ileković, Nike Nodilo-Lakoš and Ines Pavlačić.
Jozić-Ileković, Pavlačić and Nodilo-Lakoš also applied for the positions of commission members.
Nine candidates meeting the relevant criteria applied for the position of members of the Conflict of Interest Commission - Radmila Bonifačić, Tatjana Gojak, Željko Humek, Dražen Jović, Igor Lukač, Nikša Marušić, Ana Poljak, Tomislav Šunjić and Doris Ušalj.
Dalija Orešković (Centre) described the call for applications for the new Conflict of Interest Commission as "a mini debacle" and "devastating" for a country that has problems with corruption.
"A very small number of candidates came forward, and judging by their resumes and previous experience, almost none of them have any connection with anti-corruption issues, except for those who were already members of the commission," she said.
The parliamentary committee's chairwoman, Nada Murganić (HDZ), said that the 13 eligible candidates will be interviewed next Friday.
