Sabor Speaker meets prominent Croats in Sweden

Zagreb - Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković, who arrived in Stockholm to attend the 4th Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform, on Saturday met with prominent Croats who live and work in Sweden.

Representatives of the Croatian diaspora, took part in the meeting.

It was noted in the discussion that the Croatian community in Sweden numbers around 40,000 people, and it was emphasised that they are extremely well integrated into Swedish society while at the same time maintaining a strong connection with their homeland and their roots.

Those representatives, who included business people, scientists and cultural workers active in Sweden, informed Jandroković about the work of their associations which, brought together under the Federation of Croatian Societies, have for many decades been dedicated to preserving Croatian customs and cultural heritage.

They expressed their satisfaction with the overall attitude of Swedish institutions towards the Croat expat community, as well as with their good cooperation with the Central State Office for Croats Abroad.

The Sabor Speaker said that the Croatian diaspora in Sweden is an important link in connecting the two countries and contributes greatly to the quality of bilateral relations.

He thanked them for their dedicated preservation of the Croatian language, culture and the overall identity of the Croatian people, highlighting in particular the extremely important contribution of the Croatian Catholic Missions in Sweden to safeguarding the faith and national identity of Croats living there.

During his stay in Sweden, Jandroković will meet with the chairman of the Stockholm City Council, Olle Burell, take part in a reception hosted by Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Prince Daniel, and deliver an address at the 4th Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform.
