Zagreb - The foundation stone laying ceremony for the future place of worship for members of the Macedonian Orthodox Church was held in Zagreb on Sunday. In attendance at the ceremony were Stefan Archbishop of Ohrid and Macedonia, who is the leader of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, Croatian Parliament Speaker Josip Leko and Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki.
The Macedonian religious dignitary thanked Croatia for catering for the needs of the Macedonian community and Orthodox faithful.
Foreign Minister Poposki expressed satisfaction with today's event which he said would help nurture friendly bilateral relations. He said that this was the first place of worship of the Macedonian Orthodox Church to be built in the region.
Sabor Speaker Leko said that the foundation stone laying ceremony was a festivity for the Macedonian community in Croatia, the Macedonian Church as well as for the Croatian society and state.
The deputy mayor of Zagreb, Vesna Kusin said today's event proved that the Croatian capital supported ecumenical endeavors.
A representative of ethnic Macedonians in Croatia, Elizabeta Petrovska recalled that to date the Catholic Church had allowed Macedonian Orthodox believers to use its facilities in Zagreb for religious services. (Hina)
