Zagreb - Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Wednesday met with his Spanish counterpart Meritxell Batet Lamana in Madrid, thanking her for her country's support to Croatia's bid to join the Schengen and euro areas and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Jandroković visited Madrid at Batet's invitation, to attend an interparliamentary forum of the two countries.
Addressing the event, he said that ties between the two countries had existed for centuries, pointing also to their cooperation in the EU, NATO and the MED9 forum and thanking Spain for its support to Croatia's strategic goals - entry to the Schengen and euro areas and the OECD.
He expressed satisfaction with the strengthening of the two countries' economic cooperation and the DONES nuclear project - the first power plant to make electricity with the help of fusion - based on a Spanish-Croatian initiative.
Jandroković and Batet also condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, expressing solidarity with Kyiv, and in the context of that security crisis, the Croatian parliament speaker also spoke about the situation in Croatia's neighbourhood.
He underlined the importance of protecting the equality of all three peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina and their status of constituent peoples, reiterating Croatia's support to EU enlargement to the Western Balkans.
During his official visit to Spain, Jandroković is also expected to meet representatives of the Croat expatriate community in that country.
