Zagreb - A final bill on seeds, propagating/reproductive material and acceptance of varieties of agricultural plant species was sent by the government to the parliament on Thursday.
Presenting the bill, Agriculture Minister Marija Vučković said that the government-sponsored bill encourages the preservation of varieties and prevents the spread of harmful organisms, and it also incorporates the European Union's directives to standardise the production and marketing of seeds.
High-quality seeds and propagating material for agriculture are basic preconditions for successful and cost-efficient agricultural production, she said.
The bill regulates certification and marketing of seed or propagating material with the aim of promoting its health and preventing the spread of harmful organisms.
The future law will not restrict ecological production, Vučković said, among other things.
The bill regulates the adoption of a national programme for the preservation of crop genetic resources.
