Zagreb - Radovan Dobronić, who has been appointed as Supreme Court president, was sworn in on Monday in the presence of Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković and as the chief justice of that court he is by default the president of the State Electoral Commission (DIP).
"I will do all I can to conduct this duty as best as I can, professionally, objectively and impartially," Dobronić said after being sworn in.
He believes he can count on cooperation from all his colleagues, the executive authority and the Sabor.
"The task is a joint one and with synergy, we can achieve a lot even in a relatively short time. For some issues, it is a matter of mentality and that may take a little longer," said Dobronić.
"Two things are essential, one is to strengthen the formal order and the other is to strengthen trust in the judiciary," he underscored.
Jandroković recalled that legislative amendments ahead of the Supreme Court president's appointment resulted in the process lasting longer than usual but in the end, he said, Dorbornić was appointed by a large majority in the parliament.
The Sabor supported Dobronić with 120 votes in favour and 3 against.
"An efficient judiciary is one of the key tasks that will lead to a comprehensive strengthening of state institutions and the rule of law. At the same time it will increase citizens' trust in public institutions and the reputation of judges and other employees in the judiciary," said Jandroković.
He wished Dobronić success in his new office to the benefit of all Croatian citizens.
The Supreme Court president is by default also the president of DIP.
Dobronić was sworn in in the presence of Jandroković, Justice and Administration Minister Ivan Malenica, Deputy Parliament Speakers Furio Radin, Sabina Glasovac and Željko Reiner, the chairman and deputy chairman of the parliamentary judiciary committee and members of DIP and the State Judicial Council, and Supreme Court and Constitutional Court judges.
