Zagreb - Deputy Parliament Speaker and prominent Croatian scientist, academician Željko Reiner has been elected as a member of the European Academy of sciences and arts Academia Europaea.
Academia Europaea was founded by the United Kingdom Royal Society in Cambridge in September 1988 as an independent pan-European scientific institution.
It promotes excellence in humanities, legal, economic, and social sciences as well as medicine, mathematics, and other areas of science with the aim of achieving the common good.
Members are selected by invitation only, following a recommendation by two existing members of the academy and selection is a recognition of special achievements in science in various fields.
There are 80 Nobel prize winners among the members of the Academia Europaea.
