Domaljevac-Šamac - Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Josip Leko, who is currently on a two-day visit to neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina, said on Tuesday that Croatia would consider the possibility of providing assistance to municipalities in the country's northern Posavina region which were severely hit by recent floods.
-Ninety-five percent of the municipality of Domaljevac-Šamac was flooded, both private homes and commercial buildings. The damage is huge, so it will be hard to repair it and revive the local economy, Leko said after a meeting with local government officials.
-Local businesses have not received even regular support from the central government, which is a problem I would not want to go into, but Croatia will see what it can do to help Domaljevac-Šamac, Leko said, adding that the same also applied to the neighbouring municipalities of Orašje and Odžak.
Earlier on Tuesday, Leko laid a wreath on the grave of the recently-deceased president of the Democratic Action Party (SDA), Sulejman Tihić, in Bosanski Šamac. He will complete his two-day visit with a meeting with senior Bosnian Croat political leaders in Orašje in the afternoon.
