Parliament Speaker says Parliament to help flood victims

Zagreb - The Croatian Parliament will join in efforts to extend assistance to people living in the flood-hit areas of eastern Croatia, Parliament Speaker Josip Leko said, expressing solidarity with the flood victims. Speaking at a parliament session, Leko said he hoped talks between parliamentary party groups would result in a single decision on assistance.

The Parliament has the possibility, right and obligation to see to it that similar accidents are prevented in the future, notably when adopting the state budget and legislation, as well as when approving reports by services responsible for similar situations, Leko said, expressing solidarity also with neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, hit by floods in the last few days.
