Justice Committee turns down chair's proposal

Zagreb - At the end of the parliamentary Justice Committee's thematic session on Friday, which was marked by one-upmanship between the HDZ and the Opposition, the motion proposed by the committee chair Nikola Grmoja (Bridge) about the continuation of the session was turned down.

Grmoja proposed that the thematic session focusing on information leaks from investigations should be resumed when the schedule of Attorney General Ivan Turudić allowed him to attend it again.

During today's session, which lasted three and a half hours, Turudić walked out and as he was leaving said that the purpose of the session was not to establish the truth.

Grmoja's proposal was turned down with six members voting against it and three voting for it.

The proposal to hold this thematic session on information leaks was put forward by Grmoja himself following the arrests of two HDZ members who had previously resigned - Josip Škorić, who resigned as the Management Board chair of the Hrvatske Ceste road operator, and Josip Šarić, who resigned as a member of parliament.

In response to a question from Urša Raukar-Gamulin of the We Can! party, Turudić said today that it was not his job to establish "what made these two men feel the urge to step down."
