Zagreb - Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Monday received Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel for talks which focused on bilateral relations between the two countries.
The two officials underscored the good and friendly relations between Croatia and Algeria, saying there were no outstanding issues but that there was a need to maintain more frequent bilateral meetings at high levels. This official visit to Croatia by Minister Messahel is only the third visit by an Algerian official since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
The two officials also agreed that there was a lot of room to improve cooperation in all fields of mutual interest, primarily in the economy, science and culture and in that regard they welcomed the agreement on cultural cooperation that was signed earlier in the day.
When it comes to economic cooperation, Jandroković stressed that Croatia was interested in intensifying economic cooperation and that a good basis would be creating a legal framework, primarily an agreement on avoiding double taxation. Minister Messahel underscored the need to organise an economic forum and intensify cooperation between the two countries' chambers of commerce.
Jandroković underlined the need to strengthen parliamentary cooperation which is good at multilateral forums. He welcomed the invitation at the bilateral level sent for the Croatian parliament's inter-parliamentary friendship group to visit Algeria this year.
