Parliament speaker addresses administrative-law conference

Split - Parliament Speaker Josip Leko, speaking at the start of the 7th Croatian-French Administrative-Law Days in Split on Monday, pointed out the importance of the European legal acquis for Croatia after it has joined the European Union and advocated for the rule of law in Croatia in an effort to avoid inadequate valuing of the legal profession.

"Now topics of the European legal acquis are common to us all and France continues to be an ideal in creating and applying the law but also as our partner on the European scene", said Leko as the sponsor of the two-day event entitled "Changes in administrative magistracy". He said he hoped that this event would "echo as a voice of excellence in Croatian law and a strong confirmation of the rule of law in a European Croatia".

Explaining the reasons for accepting sponsorship of the Croatian-French Administrative-Law Days, Leko said that this year's topic will deal with current issues relating to Croatian administrative law and public administration and that over the past seven years this event has recognised the "slightly neglected area of administrative law by highlighting its role in contemporary national and European law".

The continual nature of this event has been some form of support to Croatia on its path toward full membership to the European Union and it will continue to be just as important event now that Croatia has joined the EU, said Leko.
