Croatian, Slovenian parliamentary committees to hold joint sessions twice a year

Ljubljana - The Slovenian and Croatian parliamentary committees on European affairs agreed in Ljubljana on Tuesday to convene twice a year so as to advance parliamentary cooperation and provide better information to citizens about European Union issues, adding that other Southeast European countries would gradually join this form of cooperation.

At the joint session in Ljubljana today, members of the two countries' parliamentary committees unanimously adopted conclusions which, among other things, underline the importance of dialogue with citizens about the future of the EU at all levels, with the cooperation with NGOs if possible, so as to strengthen the citizens' trust in the bloc and its role as the protector of peace, democracy and human rights.

The conclusions also say that dialogue must also include the issues of EU enlargement to include Southeast European countries. (Hina)
